Was I born in the wrong time period?
Ever feel like you should have been born at another time?
I think I’ve always felt like this. A theory I came up with is that I’ve always been an explorer at heart. But my desire for exploration can’t possibly be satisfied in these times. Up until modern times, there has always been a frontier to explore… some uncharted/undiscovered territory with mystery and wonder. But now, generally speaking, there is nothing left to explore. Everything is “known”. And there is no mystery about it. And this will continue to be true until we start making some real progress on space exploration.
Had I been born 200 years later or even 200 years earlier, I think my desire for exploration (or at very least, the opportunity for exploration) would be satisfied. Today I depend solely on video games and movies to fill that void. Of course, I’m not saying that if I had the opportunity to be reborn at an another time period that I would necessarily do it. I have a very fortunate life when you compare it to the average life across history. But it’s something that I think about a lot.
I wonder if there ever will be a frontier again (the final frontier?
) in my lifetime, and if future historians will call this time period the frontier gap period… or some something cool sounding like that. Yeah.

You’ve been everywhere I take it, so there’s nothing to explore for yourself? Go somewhere you’ve never been and leave the map at home.
Idiot.

There is a quite a difference between exploring something that many people have seen, and no one has seen. I see that you missed that point.

There are still a few places on Earth that we have yet to explore, mostly the depths of the jungles and the darkest part of the oceans though they remain unexplored for a reason. Then there is the final frontier, as you mentioned. I doubt we’ll be able to explore it in our time given the problems associated with travelling in space.
If exploration is your fascination and regret for living in this time consider that we do indeed know a lot (though not everything, as you mentioned) so you have the opportunity, from living in this time, of exploring the depths of man’s knowledge and discovering things you personally were unaware of.
